A Day for Action - Join us & Join In! Sept 29th, 2018 - STU Forest Hill Centre
Over the past few years many organizations in the greater Fredericton area have been engaging older adults for their views on how we can better serve them and what they would like to see happen in our area. Because of this commitment from our community, we have come together to create a one-day gathering called A Day for Action.

Mayor's Task Force on Homelessness - GFSI Executive Director chaired the Partnership Working Group. Their objective was to provide recommendations to City Council on how we can end chronic homelessness in Fredericton and support The Road Home plan as outlined by the Community Action Group on Homelessness (CAGH).
As part of the partnership committee, GFSI in partnership with the CAGH organized an open space forum that brought together 70 people from 45 different faith-based organizations. One of the outcomes from this amazing gathering was the obvious need for a "communication tool" that our faith-based organizations, and others, can use to coordinate the services they provide to those in the circumstance of poverty in our city. Civic Tech Fredericton has taken on the task of creating this tool. |
2016 - Greater Fredericton Social Innovation, the City of Fredericton, St. Thomas University and the Atlantic Institute on Aging came together to organize an open space forum to focus on the "Third Act" of life as a time of growth, giving back and the social wealth.
This exciting one-day event brought together people of all ages - from their 20s to their 90s - and focus on the positive impact of an aging population. The aim was to come up with concrete, practical ways in which we can change the conversation about "aging" from a public deficit to what it truly is…a public strength. To help New Brunswick be the province that gets aging "right", it takes a larger and more open conversation.
A Day for the Ages is that conversation.
Many outcomes from this day have been implemented. A Day For The Ages has been adopted in 4 other New Brunswick communities. Thank you to our sponsors The Wellness Movement, Alleira Living, and FCNB.

Great Gathering's Open Space Forum is tremendously successful at engaging the community & mobilizing collaborative action.
After identifying community priorities, working groups form to develop and implement strategic plans to tackle the priorities. Each group engages a broad network of individuals and leverages community resources to achieve community goals.
Here are some examples of new ideas addressing unmet needs.

Fredericton Makerspace is lead by a small group of local 'Makers' with a common goal: create a setting which fosters learning, creativity, and collaboration.
Makerspace offers a wide range of tools and equipment that members can use to create their own projects. We have many key woodworking shop tools, a Makerbot 3-D printer, Arduino microprocessors and peripheral accessories, sewing machines and computers. We also have the only public-access screen-printing facility in the city - you or your organization can print your own custom t-shirts, tote bags, and more. At the core of any Makerspace is the sharing of knowledge and skills. |
