What is The Great Gathering?
How does this work?
The Great Gathering uses a meeting style called Open Space Forum, where the participants actually create the agenda (based on their passion/topic), and attend only the sessions they wish to attend. If you take a look at the Agenda you will get a sense of how the days will flow. In very brief description: we gather in a circle; the agenda is built as people come to the center of the circle to share (and write) their passion/topic on a sheet of paper; the passion/topic is posted on the Marketplace wall and a time and space is assigned; people then survey the Marketplace and chose which passions/topics they wish to join; at the end we gather in the circle.
What is the key value?
The Great Gathering is organized around this question, “How can we work together to make Fredericton (and area) better?” The response to the question invites participants towards a shared common solution based on their passions.
What are the results?
Each passion/topic actually creates its own strategy. At the end of The Great Gathering the combined efforts of the participants generates a very inclusive Strategic Plan for the community.
To Close:
The Great Gathering offers to the community the opportunity to create a shared strategy, with, by the nature of the design of the event, generates a highly inclusive strategic plan with specific targets, solutions and outcomes.
In some ways it is very simple ... The Great Gathering creates the space for us to get together at on a large scale to share and talk ... and create the solutions together.
