2023 Atlantic Region Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Symposium.
In partnership with the City of Fredericton's Office of Community Inclusion, this symposium provided a platform for organizations to present research, successes, challenges and lessons learned resulting from the implementation of DEI initiatives. |
What's Your Legacy - Matching professionals with the needs on Non-profit boards
In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, GFSI and UNB Business Management students we launched the 2023 What's Your Legacy program. We matched 12 Non profits with at least three professionals. We had 16 impressive professionals register to join a non profit board of directors! |
Basic Income New Brunswick is part of Coalition Canada's cross country alliance of basic income advocacy groups and networks. Basic Income NB has been developed in partnership with GFSI to advocate for the implementation of a nationwide Basic Income Guarantee.

Urban / Rural Rides is a registered charity powered by volunteers. This program was created in response to an ever-growing need in our rural communities for safe, affordable, and reliable transportation. GFSI has partnered with Urban / Rural Rides to expand their services to Cambridge-Narrows, Hanwell, Kingsclear, and Oromocto.

The Gathering Place - Non-Profit Resource Centre is a beautiful, open-concept meeting space. The Gathering Place enables our community to host events, fundraisers, meetings, and collaborate. Community Food Smart is a bulk food buying club for individuals and families keen on purchasing quality fruits and vegetables at affordable prices, sourced from local farmers when possible. Community Food Smart operates through a network of community partners who collect orders, provide volunteers, and distribute food bags to their members each month.

NATIONAL HOUSING DAY
Since 2000, Nov. 22nd has been recognized as National Housing Day (NHD) across Canada. It’s a day to recognize the important work done by housing partners across our communities and to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to improve access to housing for everyone in Canada. This year, housing partners from the community will be hosting an awareness and momentum building event to highlight the critical role affordable housing and person-centred housing-based supports play in building a healthy community for all. |
Non-profit Breakfast Club - The Fredericton area NPOs meet every month to check in with each other, look for opportunities to collaborate and share information. We meet the first Friday of the month on zoom. Click here to register for the next meeting. |

Civic Tech Fredericton has been working in partnership with GFSI and ACOA to grow the Civic Tech community across Atlantic Canada. Inter-generational living is a living arrangement between an older adult and younger adult who share a household. The goal of iGenNB is to enhance quality of life and provide affordable housing and mentorship through connection and co-living.

Technical Solutions to Social Issues - Civic Tech Fredericton serves as the connective tissue between citizens, organizations, government innovators and the tech community. We facilitate knowledge sharing and work collaboratively to build the digital tools residents expect and need.

NB Voices is a website dedicated to sharing the stories of people living in New Brunswick. We value and use personal narratives as an indication of triumph. By documenting and sharing our knowledge, wisdom and experiences, NB Voices helps us generate true wellness in our communities and the individuals within them.

SWAG is our team of committed older adults who want to make a difference in our community. They lead a number of initiatives in our city. We look forward to supporting the SWAG team as they work to make life better for older adults.

GFSI and partners lead the creation, implementation, analysis and reporting of the Age Friendly Survey. The results will help with long term decision-making on issues that affect us, on the part of elected officials, City staff, and the many non-profit organizations which continually work to make Fredericton a great city in which to live, work and play.
As data from the survey is analyzed and important issues identified, the plan is to follow-up with community consultations and forums. This will provide ongoing clarity and help in the creation of an age-friendly action plan to ensure that our needs are being met. Please see survey results here. |

The goal of this event was to facilitate and create strategic collaborations between non-profit organizations. During this event, representatives of various non-profit organizations created new alliances that has made us stronger and helped us to secure a sustainable future.

Over the past few years many organizations in the greater Fredericton area have been engaging older adults for their views on how we can better serve them and what they would like to see happen in our area. A Day for the Ages was held in 2016. In 2018, GFSI and partners hosted A Day For Action.
